VISHAL
BHARDWAJ
Vishal began his career in the Indian Film Industry
as a music composer for films. He met with early success in
his career with music in films like 'Maachis' and 'Satya'
where he created a new kind of sound; something that was pretty
new and innovative for Indian films. He earned a reputation
due to his constant experimentation and a quality that was
rare in other composers in the industry, called script sense.
His music gained recognition and earned him many accolades
like the 'Channel V Award' and 'Filmfare Award' for his first
film 'Maachis' and the 'National Film Award' for best music
in a film called 'Godmother'.
With
a view to satisfy his urge to sharpen and enhance his creative
skills, Vishal decided to try his hand in the more strenuous
profession of film direction. Previous to this production
he had directed two short films on video for reputed Television
Channels in the country. Both these films were appreciated
by the audiences and he received further encouragement to
make a film. 'Makdee' is his first feature, an attempt to
both entertain and inform.
Vishal
lives in Mumbai and still manages to find some time to play
Cricket, another passion, only when he is not recording music,
writing or working on his next feature.
Makdee
Makdee
can easily take its place of pride as one of the better films
for children to have come out of this country in the recent
past. Made on a shoe string budget, the film required extra
doses of conviction, courage and energy which it was provided
mainly by the efforts of its Writer, Music composer, Director
and Producer.
Vishal
Bhardwaj had laid a huge gamble when he decided to buy his
film off CFSI and release it himself. But, as it worked out,
the gamble paid off. Currently in its 7th week, Makdee now
serves as an example for filmmakers setting out to make low-budget
films. The film has recovered the distributor's cost and is
on its way to earning profits for its producers.
Apart
from this Makdee was selected for no less than ten International
film festivals including the Chicago International film festival
for children, LUCAS International Children's film festival
in Frankfurt, Cairo International Film Festival, Toronto Film
Festival amongst others. It won the Adult Jury Prize in Chicago
Interntaional Children's Film Festival.
